Description, Habitat, Ecology, Distribution

This species is commonly known in English as Indian consumption plant and among Hul’q’umi’num’ speakers generally only by its Hul’q’umi’num’ name. It is a small herbaceous perennial that grows in dry, open, often pebbly to sandy areas at low to middle elevations. It has yellow flowers that develop into small, flat fruits that resemble rolled oats and are usually thought of as "seeds." It occurs in southwestern British Columbia south to southern Oregon.

The "seeds" often are used as medicine for respiratory conditions and are highly valued among the Hul’q’umi’num’.
